Frequently Asked Questions
Day Old Chicks & Hatching Eggs
-
We start shipping out chicks in mid to late March depending on the weather. We start taking preorders in November and try our best to get orders out in the order that we receive them. We are a small family-run hatchery and try to get orders out as quickly as possible. If you would like to receive your order in early spring I would highly recommend getting your order in by December. We try our best to give you an accurate estimated time of arrival. These are estimates, not guarantees. We have a limited number of chicks shipping out every week and chicken laying and hatching can be unpredictable. If your chicks are taking too long and you are tired of waiting just give us a call and we will issue you a full refund no questions asked. You are not locked into your order once it’s placed.
-
Chicks will ship USPS Priority Express 1-2 business days
-
The vast majority of the chicks we ship arrive alive and arrive healthily but we all know that the post office can be unpredictable sometimes, packages take longer than expected or become lost completely. This is tragic and if you are one of the unlucky few to lose their chicks in shipment just contact us and we will be happy to reship or refund your order.
-
All chicks are one day old at the time of shipment
-
No. We exclusively ship straight runs. We do not sex chicks before shipment.
-
Yes. We have a lot of different breeds of pens, and you will receive a mix of different pens.

-
No. We know life happens. If you change your mind about your order for any reason before your order is shipped, just give us a call. We will refund your order in full, no questions asked.
-
We are NPIP compliant. The USDA comes out to test our birds regularly and we are not allowing guests on the farm. Only a handful of people are allowed around the birds to prevent infection from getting tracked into the pens on anyone’s shoes and we use 1” mesh netting on all of our pens to prevent wild birds from spreading disease. All chicks that are shipped are hatched in an incubator and never have any interaction with the flock.
Some states have restricted shipments of chicks if avian influenza has been detected in the state of origin in the past 30 days. If that happens we will contact you and will either hold the order until the restrictions are lifted or refund you on the order. -
All of our chicks are pre sold. If you would like us to give you a call for pickup when they are ready, we can do that. We do not have chicks readily available for pickup.

Poultry Netting
-
Polyethylene & Polypropylene(not low-quality nylon) Polyethylene & Polypropylene are the industry standard materials for high-quality poultry netting. These materials are designed for continuous use in high UV areas. The UV protection is actually built into the material, not just a surface treatment. The stretchy nylon netting I see sold on other sights might, or might not have a UV surface treatment that will flake off in a couple of years. I hear from my customers again and again that the nylon netting sold by my competitors is falling apart soon after they spend their valuable time installing it. I purchased a canoe in 2012 made out of Polyethylene. These materials, Polyethylene & Polypropylene, last for years even in tropical, high UV areas.
-
7 to 10 years in high UV areas is what is advertised, but my Grandfather had some of this same netting in continuous use for over 20yrs. and it was still good netting. I have some of it on my farm that has been in use for over 10 years, and it is still very good netting.
-
Yes, this netting can be easilty cut to size with no risk of unraveling
-
We use 10ft 1⅜" Steel top rail pipe with canopy fitting foot pads on either end of the pole for our main supports. A canopy fitting on the bottom to prevent it from sinking into the ground and a canopy fitting with bolts on top to catch the netting. We then run vinyl-coated steel aircraft cable from end to end in our pens over the canopy fittings. This cable is held in place between the bots and gives the netting extra support throughout the pen.
-
2” mesh netting will work for most people and save you some money. I generally only suggest using 1” mesh netting if you are concerned about small birds getting into the pens. We use 1” mesh netting in our pens to prevents small birds from eating feed and spreading disease.
-
We generally use hog rings to attach our netting to the fence, but a lot of people will use zip ties.

Jiffy wing bands are easier to attach. We generally use jiffy wing bands. A lot of people use zip bands because they have a much stronger attachment to the wing and you can customize them with more characters.
